John F. Killian President – Verizon Business
John F. Killian is president of Verizon Business, responsible for serving the communications needs of large, global businesses and government markets. He was named president of Verizon Business in 2006 at its formation through the combination of MCI and Verizon’s large business organization. Verizon Business operates a high-speed network of unsurpassed global reach and offers advanced Internet Protocol solutions to business customers around the world. Under Killian’s leadership, this business unit has received a number of awards and citations for excellence from such organizations as Frost and Sullivan and the Gartner Group.
Prior to his current position, Killian was senior vice president and chief financial officer for Verizon’s Domestic Telecom group. He previously served as senior vice president and controller for Verizon, responsible for corporate-wide accounting, public finance reporting and budget analysis and in 2000, as senior vice president of customer operations for Verizon’s National Operations Group covering the northern half of the United States.
Killian began his communications career with New England Telephone in 1979, and held positions of increasing responsibility from district manager through vice president, primarily in the fields of operations and finance. In 1995, Killian was appointed president and chief executive officer of NYNEX CableComms Limited, responsible for all activities for one of the largest telecommunications, information services and entertainment companies in the United Kingdom. He subsequently served as group president - International Telecommunications and later, as vice president of investor relations for Bell Atlantic.
Prior to joining AT&T, Killian worked as a certified public accountant for KPMG Peat Marwick in Providence, Rhode Island.
In 1977, Killian received a Bachelor of Science degree Magna Cum Laude from Providence College, where he was also the recipient of "The Wall St. Journal Award" and "The Rhode Island Society of Certified Public Accountants Award.” He also received a master’s degree from Bentley College in 1980.
Killian currently serves as a trustee on the boards of Providence College (Providence, RI) and the National Urban League (New York, NY), and formerly served on the boards of Telecom New Zealand (Wellington, New Zealand) and Cable & Wireless Communications (London, England.)
He is married with two children.
