President – Verizon Telecom

Dan Mead is president of Verizon Telecom, responsible for marketing, sales, customer service, and operations for the domestic consumer and general business markets.

Mead leads an organization of more than 70,000 employees who deliver telephone, internet and entertainment services to millions of residential and business customers across 25 states and the District of Columbia. Under his leadership, Verizon is also marketing the most comprehensive, high speed fiber-optic FiOS technology in the country, providing customers with advanced and innovative broadband and entertainment services.

Prior to this assignment, Mead was president – Verizon Services Corp., a business group that manages finance operations, real estate and supply chain services for all Verizon companies. During his tenure, the unit received the “Best New Shared Services Organization” awarded by the Shared Services & Outsourcing Network.

Mead was one of the founding senior executives of Verizon Wireless (VZW) in July 2000 and helped to build it into the industry’s leading wireless company. From March 2001 to October 2005, Mead was president of VZW’s Midwest Area, a 15-state region that stretches from Pennsylvania to the Dakotas and from Minnesota to Kentucky. He has held leadership roles in various telecommunications functions with Verizon and its predecessor companies.

Mead earned his master’s degree in business administration and bachelor’s degree in quantitative business analysis and finance from The Pennsylvania State University. PSU appointed Mead as a member of The Behrend Council of Fellows in October 2006 and he was named an Alumni Fellow in 2008.
